Each voter must be registered to vote in Fairfax County at least 22 days before the election is held. You may register in person or by mail.

Registration deadlines for 2011
  • For Aug. 23 primary election: Register by Mon., Aug. 1
  • For Nov. 8 general election: Register by Mon., Oct. 17
You may register to vote at this location:
  • County Elections Office
    Where: Fairfax Government Center., Suite 323
            12000 Govt. Center Pkwy., Fairfax (near Fair Oaks Mall - see map)
    When: Mon.-Fri., 8 am - 6 pm
You may submit your Virginia voter registration form by mail if you prefer. The form must be postmarked by the registration deadline. Forms are available at many locations in Fairfax County:
  • County Government Center
  • District government centers
  • County library branches
  • Virginia Dept. of Motor Vehicles offices

Within 30 days after registering, you should receive a Voter ID card in the mail from the County, showing your address and your voting precinct and polling place. On Election Day, you will be allowed to vote only at the precinct in which you are registered to vote.

If you have changed your address or your name, you'll need to update your registration information. If you've moved outside Fairfax County, submit a new voter registration form to the registrar in your new city or county. If you've moved within Fairfax, you should:
  • use the change-of-information form on the back of your voter ID card; or
  • fill out a new voter registration form; or
  • send the information in writing (including name, old and new address, date of birth, social security number)
Then submit the information to the County Elections Office in person, or by mail (Elections Office, 12000 Govt. Center Pkwy. #323, Fairfax 22035) or by fax (703-324-2205). Any change of address must be signed and submitted by the registration deadline.
