If you are eligible to vote absentee (see reasons), you may cast your absentee ballot in person. This option allows you to complete the entire absentee voting process in one visit to the County Government Center (or satellite facility), thus eliminating the risk of mail delay. It is often more convenient than voting by mail for voters who will be in Fairfax at some point in the weeks preceding the election. (Alternatively, you can vote absentee by mail.)

In-person absentee voting is available for all primary and general elections at the County Elections Office (Rm. 323) in the Fairfax County Government Center, 12000 Govt. Center Pkwy. (near Fair Oaks Mall - see map).

NOTE: During October, additional in-person absentee voting centers are often set up at other locations around the County, including McLean and Reston. Check the County website, or call 703-266-0776, to see what additional facilities are available in the next general election.

This service begins about 45 days before the November election (or 30 days before a primary), and ends the Saturday before Election Day. The County Elections Office is open for absentee voting during normal business hours and on the final Saturday before the election.

NOTE: During October, there may also be extended evening hours on some days at the main Elections Office, and some additional Saturday hours. Satellite in-person voting facilities are usually open in the afternoon and early evening. Check the County website, or call 703-222-0776, to see what hours are available in the next general election.

The process is simpler than voting absentee by mail.

Step #1: Go to the County Elections Office (or satellite facility) and ask for an absentee ballot application.

Step #2: Complete the application form at the office and submit it. You'll be given access to a voting machine or official absentee paper ballot.

Step #3: Cast your vote right there in the office. You're done!

More information on absentee voting in-person is available online from Fairfax County and the State Board of Elections.
