Club newsletter:January 2010Fellow members of the Republican Club of Greater Reston: Thank you for electing me as your President for 2010. I am honored to serve you and work with the officers you have elected. This will be a great Republican year and I am looking forward to working with all of you to help make this happen. Especially after Tuesday night's victory in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, as well as last November's elections in Virginia and New Jersey, Republicans, Independents, and Conservative Democrats across this great land have spoken. They want a return to a more limited government, fiscal restraint, a strong national defense, active engagement abroad of terrorists, and courts that follow the constitution as written, not as some want it rewritten. You and I, working together and with our Republican compatriots in Fairfax County, can help make this happen. The election of Scott Brown as the junior Senator from Massachusetts is a resounding signal that President Obama and his big government takeover of our medical care and other major segments of our economy and the tremendous deficit are not the desire of the majority of the American people. These recent elections clearly demonstrate what an organized and focused Republican campaign can do. We can be part of this groundswell by banding together as a Club and support our strong Republican candidates. We must spread the Republican message and most importantly, show our friends, coworkers and neighbors that people just like them, and not some fat-cat Wall Street executives. Our Republican message is a clear and simple one that resounds when spoken by people like us where we live, work and play. Together we can help our new Governor McDonnell and the Republican team rebuild the kind of Commonwealth and Nation that we know will be good for our children and grandchildren. We must work hard this year to elect Republicans to the offices in the county, state and the House and Senate of the United States. We have members from a wide area that basically is within an oblong shape that runs from the Potomac River to the Beltway and Tysons Corner and West of I-66 out to Route 28 and back to the Potomac, including all the area around Reston with Herndon, Oakton, and Vienna. We have members in all three Congressional Districts and a multitude of State Senate and Delegate seats and at least three County Supervisors. Other than the Republican Women's Clubs, we are the only Republican Club within this area. One of my objectives is to reach out to the Republican Women's Clubs in our area. The members of these Clubs are among the hardest working Republicans in our area. We owe them an expression of appreciation for all they do. I would like to coordinate our efforts with theirs and encourage as many of them as wish to also be members of our Club. They can be a great asset to us with their commitment and knowledge. We should work to recruit members and encourage them to work for Republican candidates throughout this area. We can make a big difference and help make much of this area red. I am attaching a list of the officers and those who have volunteered so far to be chairs and work on our Club committees. Please consider adding your name to the committee on which you feel you can make your greatest contribution. Send me an email and I will add you as you request. Check out our great Club web site at www.RestonRepublicans.com. Thanks to Jeff Miller, our webmaster, this site is full of information not only about the Club, but also on how to contact all the other Republican organizations. I thank him for all of us. I also want to thank Harry and Molly Locock along with the other officers for the great job they have done for the past few years. They have really worked hard to keep the Club focused and active. They will still be around to help us in the future. I look forward to working with all of you in the coming year. I will have more for you relating to our Club plans in the near future as your new officers and committee chairs help me plan our year. In the next few weeks, I will be working with them to flesh out our plans for the year, focusing both on Club growth and how to best support our Republican candidates. Woody Bentley, President
