Democrats currently hold two of the three Congressional seats in Fairfax, so there's an opportunity for the GOP to pick up one or more seats. Republican nominees in the 8th and 11th Districts will be selected by primary elections on Tuesday, June 8. (In the 10th District, Cong. Frank Wolf was unopposed for renomination.) The general election will be Tuesday, November 2. In addition, two special elections were held in early 2010:

For Congress - 8th DistrictTwo Republicans are competing for the nomiation to run in 2010 against discredited incumbent Democrat Jim Moran. The GOP nominee will be selected by Republican primary on Tue., June 8 (method set by the 8th District Republican Committee in Dec. 2009). The filing period closed on April 9. The 8th District includes parts of northern, central and southern Fairfax County (Reston, Tysons Corner, Merrifield, Seven Corners, Baileys Crossroads, Kingstowne), along with Arlington, Alexandria and Falls Church. (See list of precincts in northern Fairfax.) GOP candidates on the primary ballot (in alphabetical order):

Frank Wolf of Fairfax County has served with distinction as a member of the House from Northern Virginia since 1981. He is the dean of the Virginia Congressional delegation, and is seeking re-election in 2010.
