Get involved in '08!

Reston area voters will participate in elections for President, U.S. Senate and Congress in 2008. Three elections and one nominating conventions are scheduled:

  • Presidential primary on Feb. 12
  • State convention on May 31 (U.S. Senate)
  • Primary election on June 10 (Congress)
  • General election on Tue., Nov. 4

In addition, Reston Republicans served as delegates to the Fairfax County GOP Convention in April, and the Congressional District Conventions in May.

For President of the U.S.

For U.S. Senate

Gilmore logoCongratulations to former Gov. Jim Gilmore, who won the GOP nomination for U.S. Senate on May 31 at the Republican State Convention. Gilmore will face Democat ex-Gov. Mark Warner in the fall. He's running to succeed the retiring John Warner (R), who has represented Virginia in the Senate since 1978. For U.S. Congress

Voters in the 8th District will have another opportunity to elect a new member of Cognress to replace discredited incumbent Democrat Jim Moran. Republicans Mark Ellmore won the Republican nomination on June 10 in the GOP Congressional primary (see detailed primary results).

For Republican Party offices

County: Fairfax County Republicans held a County Convention on April 12 and elected Jim Hyland to a full term as Republican County Chairman. (For more on the County Committee, visit the FCRC site.)

District: The Congressional District Conventions on May 17 elected district party offices and delegates to the Republican National Convention. Read more about the conventions in the 8th District, 10th District and 11th District.

State: The Virginia State GOP Convention was held May 30-31 in Richmond. That convention elected Jeff Frederick as state party chairman, and nominated Jim Gilmore for the U.S. Senate. Read more about the State Convention.
