Landslide!
McDonnell, Bolling, Cuccinelli in GOP sweep

photophotophotoVirginia voters elected Republicans to the top three state offices on Nov. 3 by wide margins - the largest GOP win since 1993. Bob McDonnell was elected Governor, with a decisive 59-41 victory over Democrat Creigh Deeds. Voters also re-elected Lt. Gov. Bill Bolling over Jody Wagner, and chose Ken Cuccinelli for Attorney General over Steve Shannon.

In the House of Delegates, Republicans won six seats around the state -- including two in Fairfax, one each in Loudoun and Prince William counties -- while losing just two.

GOP gains in Fairfax!

On. Nov. 3, Bob McDonnell carried Fairfax County - the first Republican statewide candidate to do that since 2000. Running mates Bill Bolling and Ken Cuccinelli came within a few points of winning the county.

The GOP candidates for House of Delegates also performed well. The two incumbent Republicans were both re-elected:
Tom Rust (86th) and Dave Albo (42nd).
Two new Republican Delegates were elected, defeating incumbent Democrats:
Barbara Comstock (34th) and Jim LeMunyon (86th).
And two other GOP candidates came very close:
Jim Hyland (35th) and Kerry Bolognese (41st).

And we added another Republican to the Fairfax County School Board, with the victory of GOP-endorsed Patty Reed in a special election (Providence District).

Cannon does well in Delegate campaign << Updated

Republican businessman Mac Cannon campaigned hard as our candidate for Delegate in the 36th District (Reston area). And on Election Day, he picked up 40% of the vote against long-time incumbent Ken Plum (D).

photoMac was the featured guest at our club meeting in September. His campaign hosted events in Reston with Del. Tim Hugo (Oct. 13), Cong. Frank Wolf (Oct. 16) and former Cong. Tom Davis (Oct. 23). His campaign drew volunteers and attracted considerable press coverage in Reston-area newspapers.

Thanks to Mac for a great campaign this fall!

Mullins new RPV chairman

Congratulations to Pat Mullins, who was elected chairman of the Republican Party of Virginia at the State Convention on May 30. He was first elected on May 2 by the party's State Central Committee, to succeed Jeff Frederick. Mullins served as Fairfax County GOP Chairman in the 1990's. (See more in Northern Va. GOP news.)

Special elections:
Cook wins, Herrity and Hunt close << Updated

Three special elections in Fairfax have shown the Republican Party to be highly competitive.

photoRepublican John Cook won a narrow victory in March 2009 for Braddock District Supervisor. Cook is now the third GOP member of the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors.

photoIn the Feb. 2009 election for Board Chairman, GOP candidate Pat Herrity finished just 1% behind Democrat Sharon Bulova. Herrity has been a strong voice for fiscal responsibility in Fairfax County, and he continues to serve as District Supervisor from Springfield.

photoAnd in the Jan. 2010 election for State Senate (to succeed Ken Cuccinelli), Republican Steve Hunt was only 1% behind Democrat Dave Marsden.

Check the news coverage and official results from the special elections.
